Portraits of writer Jim McNaughton. He’s written a great book called ‘New Hokkaido’ (released Jan/Feb next year I think) which reimagines New Zealand in the 80’s under Japanese rule if the Japanese had won WWII.

Alex Reid, a postgraduate science student working towards his Masters in Marine Conservation- for Victoria University.  Alex looked the part despite the very cold southerly blowing on the south coast last week.

We had a couple of whales about the coast briefly this morning. Not sure if they were Humpbacks or Southern Right whales but either way they drew an appreciative crowd. I liked the way this guy in his lab coat added both a scientific and sartorial dimension to proceedings.
