I’m Grant Maiden, a commercial photographer based in Wellington, New Zealand. I’ve been doing this for over thirty years — long enough to have shot on film, survived the shift to digital, and now keeping one eye on whatever AI is doing to the industry.

This blog, Maiden Voyage, is where I put things that don’t quite fit in a client portfolio. Shoots I found interesting, places I’ve travelled with a camera, the occasional reflection on what’s happening in photography and the wider visual world. It’s been going since 2012, which makes it practically ancient by internet standards.

Most of my commercial work involves photographing people — scientists, academics, executives, artists, and the odd film director. I’ve shot for Victoria University of Wellington, ACC, Contact Energy, Sharesies, the Royal Society Te Apārangi, and a few film productions you may have heard of.

When I’m not working I’m usually on the south coast — surfing, fishing, walking the dog, at the mercy of whatever the Cook Strait and the Wellington wind decides to throw at us that day.
